At North Canterbury Stump Grinding, pricing is based on real factors that affect time, effort, and equipment use. When preparing your estimate, we consider the following:

1. Stump Size

The diameter is the biggest driver of cost. Larger stumps take longer to grind and require more machine time.

2. Number of Stumps

More stumps means better value. Once the machine is on site, moving between stumps is efficient, so the price per stump drops.

3. Root Spread and Surface Roots

Some stumps flare out under the soil or have roots spreading across the surface. This adds extra grinding and more time on site.

4. Access

Easy access keeps prices lower. Narrow gates, steps, tight paths or obstacles may require more time and effort which is reflected in the price.

5. Grinding Depth

Standard depth is included and is suitable for grass or mulch. If you plan to plant, build, or need deeper grinding, the additional depth increases the time required.

6. Obstacles and Site Conditions

Utilities, rocks, fences, garden beds or concrete close to the stump mean slower, more careful grinding. Any debris sitting on or around the stump may need clearing before work starts.

7. Wood Type

Soft, fresh wood grinds quickly. Hard, dense species take longer and increase the workload on the machine.

8. Stump Condition

Older, rotten stumps generally require less effort and time to grind.
